Wed, Jan. 2nd, 2008, 05:54 pm || 2007 TV round up
add to memoriesThis year was a strange TV year for me. I feel like I mostly stopped being enthusiastic about American dramas; a large part of this was because of my falling out with Heroes. While I did start watching a few new shows this year, I'm not head-over-heels in love with any of them yet, at least not in the same way I have been obsessing about kdramas.
2007 will probably also go down as the year I got sucked into Asian dramas. I managed to resist for about eight years, too, and then that little thing called Coffee Prince came along...
No spoilers in any of the below; please use spoiler text for any spoilers in the comments.
Shows that didn't work for me
( The Collector )
( Ugly Betty )
( Dr. Who )
The only reason Heroes isn't on this list is because 2007 included some of the great S1 episodes.
Shows that I'm watching but not excited about
( Scrubs )
( Dead Like Me )
( Heroes )
( Life )
( Blood Ties )
( Fantasy Couple )
( Snow Queen )
Shows that I'm very excited about!
( Homicide: Life on the Street )
( Spooks/MI-5 )
( Pushing Daisies )
( Avatar: the Last Airbender )
( So You Think You Can Dance )
( Nobuta wo Produce )
( My Name Is Kim Sam Soon )
And now, my very favorite shows of the year! It's cheating a little, because I'm not done with either yet, but I am so filled with squee!
( Damo )
( Coffee Prince )
Huh, looking at all this, I did watch a lot this year. It just didn't feel like it, because for most of the year, I was hopping from show to show to show. I didn't fall into kdramas until Thanksgiving, but wow, I fell hard.

add to memoriesI didn't end up watching much live-action TV this year; I spent a lot more time watching anime and reading manga. I didn't start the year off with that many live-action shows, and since I'm a lazy person, I usually never watch a show during its first season. I let other people rec stuff. This year, I started off with Scrubs, Veronica Mars, and Good Eats.
No spoilers for any of the shows. The "shows I'm excited about" part will have pimping information (aka, how to access the show, the general plotline, and etc.), as I am trying to get more people to watch.

And I've saved the best for last. My absolute favorite TV show of the year, hands down, is:
( Spooks/MI-5 )
Mon, Dec. 11th, 2006, 08:54 pm || I have returned!
add to memoriesNot that I was really that gone, internet-wise.
Addiction? What addiction?
But the rats and I have safely traversed five highways, one bridge, two windy mountain roads, and quite a few lanes clogged up by white trucks going too slowly, and are now back home. The rats seem to be very glad to be back in their normal, large cage again, and they are expressing this by beating Ruki up and flinging litter everywhere.
( Harbingers of DOOM )
( Spy shows: LFN )
( Traditional fooding )
( Rats )
( Spy shows: Spooks/MI-5 )
( Pointy sticks and string )
Also, I managed to miss both cofax7 and cychi's birthdays while I was gone, so, um... happy belated birthday! May the next year bring good food and good books.
add to memoriesOk, I was stupid and watched 5x01 because I absolutely had to know what happened after the 4x10 cliffhanger and it was stupid and it's 3 in the morning but oh my fucking god why aren't there more people watching this show?
Sorry people reading this who are totally boggled by how this show can take over my mind (this is, btw, why I usually just watch an episode a month but then there are these finales and these season openers and OMG I cannot watch another episode for another month because MY HEART CANNOT TAKE IT!).
All caps overtake my LJ!
Watch this show!
I must write up a no-spoilers pimping post sometime.
GAH.
If you haven't figured it out already, the following writeup is going to be completely incoherent and poorly punctuated and probably gratuitously misuse caps lock and exclamation points.
( SPOILERS LIKE WOAH ALL CAPS )
add to memoriesI love this show so, so much. (I also love my video iPod so, so much, as it inspires me to actually exercise because I can watch Spooks at the same time!)
But yes, this show? It is excellent. Why are more people not watching it?
( Spoilers )
add to memoriesGaaaaah, why is S1 only 6 episodes long?
I don't usually watch things like cop shows or law shows or other non-genre shows, with the exception of Scrubs, but I seem to make an exception for spies. Because... spies!
I had some difficulty first getting into the show which was largely assuaged by turning on the subtitles. It takes me a while to get used to British accents, particularly when the plots are very complicated.
I think my favorite bits are actually the way the show deals with office politics, particularly when the office is as deadly as MI-5. It's taking a while for me to get to like the characters, largely because there isn't grand spy angst like other shows. But to be honest, I rather enjoy that right now, probably because the last spy show I watched was Alias.
( Spoilers for all of S1 )
Anyone have MI-5/Spooks commentary? I found rilina's, but would love to read more.
